Download Snapchat Story Videos From a Public Link (2026)

To download a Snapchat Story you need two things: the Story's own link, and a Story that is public, posted by a creator or business profile that anyone can watch. Copy the link from Snapchat's share icon, paste it into the SnapDownloader Snapchat downloader, and save each snap as an MP4 with its sound, free and with no sign-in. Which Snapchat Stories can you download?

A Snapchat Story is either public or limited to people the poster chose, and only public Stories can be downloaded. Creators and businesses with a Public Profile can post to My Story · Public, and Snap's help pages say that anyone viewing the profile can see those active public Stories. Snaps posted to My Story · Friends are visible only to the poster's friends, and a Private Story goes only to the friends the poster picks.

SnapDownloader works with the public group only: live public Stories from creator and business profiles, plus Stories those profiles have saved publicly. Friends-only, Custom and Private Stories, and Snaps sent in chats, can't be downloaded by this tool or any other. That isn't a gap to work around. Those Snaps were shared with an audience the poster chose, and a tool that could open them would be overriding that choice.

How long does a Story link keep working?

According to Snap's own help centre, most Stories are set to delete after 24 hours unless the poster changes their settings or saves the Story to their Public Profile. Snap also says the exact timing can vary with the poster's settings, so treat 24 hours as the usual window rather than a guarantee.

That clock applies to the link as well. A Story link doesn't point to a saved copy of the video; it points to the Story on Snapchat. While the snap is live, the link opens it and SnapDownloader can fetch it. Once the snap expires, the address still looks fine, but there is nothing left behind it. So if you want to keep a snap from a creator's public Story, save it the same day you see it.

Stories saved to a Public Profile are the exception. A creator or business can save a Story to their profile, where it sits next to their other public content until they delete it, so a link to it keeps working long after the first 24 hours are up.

How to copy a public Story link

SnapDownloader works from a link you paste. It doesn't search Snapchat for accounts or Stories, so the first job is getting the right link out of the app.

1. Open the public Story in Snapchat, either from the creator's or business's profile or from the Following section of the Stories page.
2. Wait until the snap you want is on screen, then tap the share arrow. On some app versions it sits behind the three-dot menu in the corner of the snap instead.
3. Tap Copy Link. Snapchat confirms that the link was copied. It usually looks like a short snapchat.com/t/ address.

A quick test: open the link in a browser where you aren't signed in to Snapchat. If the Story plays, it's public and the download will almost always work. If Snapchat asks you to log in first, the Story isn't public, and no web tool will be able to open it.

How to download a Snapchat Story online

1. Open snapdownloader.net/snapchat in any browser.
2. Paste the Story link into the box (or tap Paste) and tap Download. You don't need to pick a tab first: the tool recognises a Story link and switches to the right view by itself.

On iPhone (Safari)

SnapDownloader has no iPhone app, so use the website in Safari. Because Snapchat serves each snap as a video to play, tapping Save video often opens it in a new tab instead of downloading it. The reliable route is to press and hold Save video and choose Download Linked File, which puts the MP4 in the Downloads folder of the Files app. To move it into Photos, open it in Files, tap the share icon, then Save Video. In Chrome, tap Save video. If the snap starts playing instead of downloading, go back, press and hold Save video and choose Download link. The MP4 goes to your Downloads folder, and most gallery apps pick it up from there; if yours doesn't, see where downloaded videos go on Android.

Will a Snapchat Story download in HD?

Why a Story download fails

A failed Story download almost always comes down to one of these:

• The Story expired. Once the 24-hour window closes, the snap is gone. The Stories filter comes up empty, or the tool tells you nothing public was found for that link.
• It was never public. Friends-only, Custom and Private Stories open only for the signed-in friends the poster chose. The tool can't reach them, and that is the correct result.
• The creator removed it. Deleted snaps, and Stories taken down from a profile, can't be fetched even if you still have the link.
• The link got mangled. A link retyped from a screenshot, or cut short while pasting, often breaks. Copy it again from the share arrow.
• It isn't a link. A Snapcode image or an account name won't work; the tool needs a link that opens the Story.
• A temporary hiccup. If you see "Couldn't fetch that Snapchat link", wait a moment and try again. If the Story still plays in a signed-out browser, it will usually go through on the next attempt.

Keep it fair to the creator
