How to download a Pinterest video, step by step

In the Pinterest app, open the pin, tap the share icon (the arrow) beneath it and choose Copy link — Pinterest usually gives you a short pin.it link, which works fine. On the Pinterest website you can copy the URL straight from your browser's address bar instead. Paste whichever link you have into the box at the top of this page and press Download.

In a second or two the video comes down as an HD MP4, or a still pin as a full-resolution JPG. On a computer and on Android the file saves to your Downloads folder, ready for your Gallery app to pick up.

iPhone saves a little differently: Safari drops the file through the share sheet into the Files app rather than straight to your camera roll. To move a video pin into Photos, open Files, tap the MP4 and choose Save Video. No Pinterest login or app is needed at any point.

What you can download from Pinterest

Video pins come down as clean MP4s with their original sound, in the largest size Pinterest keeps — usually 720p HD. You get Pinterest's own video, not a screen recording, so tutorials, recipes and DIY clips stay sharp.

Idea pins (Pinterest's multi-page format, formerly story pins) hold several pages of video or images in one pin — paste the pin link and you can save the media it contains. Animated pins are the one thing worth explaining: Pinterest stores most of them as short looping video, so they download as MP4, not as a .gif file. That is how Pinterest actually keeps them, and the MP4 plays and loops the same way.

Which Pinterest links work, and which don't

The tool accepts standard pin links — pinterest.com/pin/… — as well as the short pin.it links the app's Copy link button hands you, and country domains like pinterest.co.uk or pinterest.ca. All of them resolve to the same pin, so use whichever you have.

A bare board URL or a profile link isn't a single pin, so open the specific pin you want and copy that link instead. Secret boards and anything on a private or protected account won't resolve because the file isn't public — no paste-a-link tool can reach it. If a link copied from another app fails, open the pin in a normal browser and copy the clean Pinterest URL.

Why a Pinterest download fails

The most common reason is that the pin isn't public. Pins on secret boards, or on accounts set to private, aren't served to the open web, so SnapDownloader — or any honest tool — can't fetch them. Any site claiming to grab private Pinterest content is overpromising or fishing for your login, which you should never enter.

A deleted, taken-down or region-blocked pin also fails, because the link resolves to nothing. So does a link that points at a whole board or profile rather than one pin. When a download won't start, open the pin in a normal browser first to confirm it still loads without logging in.

If the pin clearly works but the paste doesn't, the URL is usually the culprit: a link mangled by another app's share sheet, or an old saved link. Copy a fresh pin.it or pinterest.com/pin/ link straight from Pinterest and try again.

HD video and full-resolution images

Every file is the version Pinterest itself stored, so quality tracks the source: an HD MP4 for video (usually 720p, the largest size Pinterest keeps) and the original-resolution JPG for photos.
