How to download an Instagram Reel
In the Instagram app, open the Reel, tap the paper-plane share icon beneath it and choose "Copy link." It works the same wherever the Reel lives — a profile's Reels tab, the Reels feed, or a Reel reshared to someone's grid. On the web, open the Reel and copy the URL straight from your browser's address bar instead.
Paste that link into the box at the top of this page and press Download. Usually within a few seconds you get the Reel as a single HD MP4 — one link, one file, with nothing to configure and no account to create.
On a computer or an Android phone the MP4 lands in your Downloads folder. On iPhone, Safari saves it through the share sheet into the Files app rather than directly to your camera roll — open Files, tap the MP4 and choose "Save Video" to move the Reel into Photos.

A Reel comes down as a clean MP4 in the best quality Instagram served, which for most Reels is up to 1080p. It is the source file, not a screen recording, so there is no quality loss and no re-encoding.

Which Reel links work
Any standard Reel URL works: the short reel links (instagram.com/reel/…), Reels opened from a profile's Reels tab, and Reels that were also posted to a feed as a regular post (instagram.com/p/…). Both the share menu's "Copy link" and your browser's address bar give you a URL in the right shape.
A bare username or an "@handle" will not work — a link-paste tool needs an actual Reel link, not just the account name. Links copied from inside other apps that add tracking or redirects can occasionally choke, so if a paste fails, open the Reel in a normal browser and copy the clean instagram.com URL.
Why a Reel download fails
The most common reason is that the Reel is not public. Reels on private accounts, or anything you can only see while logged in, are not served to the open web, so no legitimate tool can fetch them. Any site claiming to grab private Reels is either overpromising or fishing for your Instagram password, which you should never enter.
Deleted, taken-down, region-locked or age-gated Reels also fail, because the link resolves to nothing. If a Reel that should be public will not download, the usual culprit is a stale or edited URL — copy a fresh link straight from Instagram and confirm the Reel still opens in a browser without logging in.
