It uses the video's own captions, including YouTube's auto-generated ones, so most videos work even when the creator didn't add subtitles by hand.

What a transcript is good for

Plain text is ideal for reading a long video quickly, quoting it, translating it, or feeding it to an AI assistant to summarise — far faster than watching at 2× speed.

The SRT download gives you a proper subtitle file with timings, ready to load into a video editor or attach to your own upload. The timestamped view is handy for jumping to the exact moment something was said.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work if the video has no manual subtitles?+

Usually yes. It falls back to YouTube's auto-generated captions, so most videos produce a transcript. If a video has captions of no kind at all, there's nothing to extract and the tool says so.

Can I download subtitles as SRT?+

Yes. Alongside plain text and a timestamped view, you can download an SRT file with proper timings — the format editors and players expect.

What languages are supported?+

It fetches the video's English captions by default. Videos captioned in other languages, and auto-translations YouTube provides, can be extracted too.

Do I need an account or an app?+

No. It runs in your browser, there's nothing to install and no sign-up. Paste a link and get the text.

Is the transcript accurate?+

Manual captions are as accurate as the creator made them. Auto-generated captions are usually good but can misread names, jargon or crosstalk — quick to fix once you have the text.
